Gymnastics has been a part of my life for 17 years, I trained 4 times a week and competed at high levels both nationally and internationally becoming British and Scottish Champion at different stages in my career.
After I retired from competing, I started coaching as I wanted to stay involved in the sport as I have been passionate about it for most of my life. want to share my passion with the younger generation and give them an even better experience than I had myself. Gymnastics has always been a place where I could exert all my energy, it has provided me with amazing discipline and motivation to achieve anything in life.
I want to work with any child that wants to learn and achieve new skills whilst also developing their confidence and self-esteem through our training. Our club will focus on building a strong community, participation and inclusion. We believe that anyone of any ability who wants to try gymnastics should have the opportunity to do so.
Kate and I are an amazing team, having known each other for many years. We have always wanted to start our own club to bring our ideas together and provide an inspiring environment where everyone is included and encouraged to succeed.
Growing up, gymnastics has always been a huge part of my life. I competed in various competitions although looking back I realise the extent that my confidence had held me back.
I started coaching at the age of 13. I would go straight to coaching after school until eventually transitioning into coaching full time. I've coached parent and baby classes, preschool and recreational classes as well as coaching competitive squads.
Over the last 11 years, I have seen the progression and development of so many, not only in their strength, flexibility and gymnastics abilities, but in their confidence, independence and initiative also. In 2019. I received an award for my coaching for the impact that l've made in the community.
Having not had the easiest of upbringings and having always had self esteem issues myself, gymnastics has been a fundamental part in becoming who l am today. I want to provide an inclusive and encouraging environment for young people so that they can benefit from gymnastics in the same sense I have.
Myself and Sophie have been good friends for many years, we have worked together across different communities and we both share the same key values of inclusion, participation and self-development. We have created SOLAR as a positive and safe environment where we can work together with children to push the limits of what they thought was possible.
At SOLAR our core values are.
